Curriculum for Eco Emotions
In the times of Polycrisis
What is Eco Emotions?
This project explores how young people and those working with them can better understand and navigate eco-emotions in a time shaped by climate crisis, uncertainty, and rapid change. Across Europe, many young people experience feelings such as anxiety, grief, frustration, or overwhelm when thinking about the future. Yet these emotions are rarely acknowledged or supported in structured ways within education or youth work.

This project responds to that gap by creating spaces, tools, and learning experiences that help transform eco-emotions into something constructive: agency, resilience, and meaningful climate action. Rather than seeing emotions as a barrier, the project treats them as a starting point for engagement, reflection, and change. Through a combination of non-formal education, participatory methods, and community-based learning, the project connects inner experiences with outer action. It brings together perspectives from sustainability, psychology, and youth work to create a more holistic approach to climate engagement.

The intention is not only to support individuals, but to shift how we collectively approach climate challenges, by integrating emotional awareness into education and action.
In doing so, the project contributes to building a generation that is not only informed about climate issues, but also emotionally equipped and empowered to respond to them in grounded, collaborative, and hopeful ways.
Who is it for?
This project is designed for:
  • Young people (18–30)
Especially those navigating climate concerns, eco-anxiety, or searching for meaningful ways to engage in sustainability and climate action.
  • Youth workers & educators
Facilitators, trainers, teachers, and mentors who want practical tools to support young people emotionally while guiding them towards action.
  • Organisations working with youth
NGOs, educational institutions, and community groups looking to integrate emotional awareness into climate education and engagement.
  • Young people with fewer opportunities
Including those facing social, geographical, or educational barriers to accessing climate learning and participation.
For those who feel the weight of the climate crisis and want to turn it into something constructive, together
What we want to create
expected Results of the project

At the core of the project is the development of a practical and accessible learning ecosystem that can be used across Europe and beyond. This includes a comprehensive toolkit and curriculum focused on eco-emotions, designed specifically for youth workers and educators. These resources will combine theory, practical exercises, facilitation methods, and reflective tools that can be directly applied in workshops, training sessions, and educational programmes. Alongside this, the project will establish an online community of practice where participants can continue learning, exchange experiences, and support each other beyond the duration of the project. The creation process itself is participatory, involving pilot trainings, co-development sessions, and continuous feedback from participants and experts.

Trainings will take place in different countries, allowing for diverse perspectives and contexts to shape the final outcomes. The project also includes a research and reflection component, resulting in a public report that connects practice with existing knowledge on eco-emotions and youth engagement. Altogether, the aim is not just to produce materials, but to create a living framework that evolves through use and collaboration. The long-term vision is that these tools and methods can be adopted widely, supporting organisations, educators, and communities in integrating emotional awareness into climate education and action in a way that is grounded, practical, and impactful.
